First Day at Fundall

2023 wasn’t just another year — it was a whirlwind of learning, growth, and impact at Fundall. Stepping into my role as a Data Analyst felt like diving into a thrilling new chapter, one fueled by a supportive culture and exciting projects.

From the get-go, Fundall embraced me with a seamless onboarding experience. I was introduced to the company’s vibrant DNA, its core values, and the diverse projects waiting to be tackled. My responsibilities spanned strategic planning, performance evaluations, budget management, and competitive analysis. But the core? Fueling insights and recommendations to enhance product offerings, improve user experiences, and ultimately create happy customers.

Navigating the initial learning curve was no small feat. However, I embraced two key strategies that set the stage for success:

  1. Growth Mindset: I approached every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. I devoured books, articles, and online resources, soaking up everything about data analysis and the dynamic FinTech space. This proactive approach not only shortened my learning curve but also allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the team right away.
  2. Building a Support Squad: Fundall’s collaborative spirit shone through in my mentors and colleagues. Stella Abimbola Shopeju, our CEO, was always a pillar of support, and Taiwo Obasan, my incredible manager, provided constant guidance and motivation. With their wisdom and encouragement, I tackled complex tasks with confidence, knowing I had a cheering squad in my corner. My team members — Chioma Oko, Richard Ogidi, Abisola Aderohunmu, Abdulkabeer Abisola AMUDA, and Nafeesat Jimoh — were incredibly supportive and helpful as well.

One of the major projects I worked on was Customer Segmentation. The focus was to identify trends and patterns to guide the Growth, Marketing, and Product teams, as well as provide a foundation for strategic business decisions by the Management team. It seemed easy at first, but when I dug into the database with scores of thousands of data points, things got tricky. It was my first time dealing with such a big dataset. I had to watch videos to figure out the best way to handle it without downloading the data. Eventually, I learned I could connect the database straight to PowerBI, fix the data, and make cool dashboards. I also checked out some sample dashboards, especially since it was my first time doing a customer segmentation project. The whole experience taught me a lot about handling challenges and finding smart solutions at work.

I also took on a Sentiment Analysis project. The goal was to find out how people felt about our business, which was crucial for understanding our reputation in the community. The interesting part came when I had to share the results. I needed to present the report in a way that a non-technical person could easily understand and this majorly improved my presentation skills and data storytelling.

My data analysis wasn’t simply number crunching, but rather, a meticulous art form. I delved into real-time data streams, uncovering hidden patterns and trends that informed swift decision-making. Each analysis served a specific purpose, be it:

  • Identifying growth opportunities: By meticulously analyzing customer behaviour and market trends, I provided the Growth team with actionable insights to optimize product offerings and expand market share.
  • Enhancing marketing efficacy: Through data-driven reports, I equipped the Marketing team with compelling narratives to target customer segments and maximize outreach effectiveness.
  • Guiding strategic decisions: My comprehensive analyses provided the Management team with a clear picture of market dynamics and resource allocation, enabling them to make informed strategic decisions for long-term sustainability.

Furthermore, my expertise extended beyond traditional analysis. By meticulously tracking KPIs, I helped maintain employee productivity and fostered a culture of accountability. This proactive approach resulted in improved employee productivity, earned me the trust of my colleagues, reinforced the importance of data-driven decision-making across the organization and ultimately led to my first promotion — a moment of immense pride and validation.

As the year unfolded, I seized opportunities to expand my horizons. I collaborated with cross-functional teams becoming the middlestack between engineering, product, operations, growth marketing, and management, tackled new challenges, and became a go-to person for insights and problem-solving. This culminated in a defining moment — being awarded the “Commitment to Quality” award at the year-end celebration. It was a humbling recognition of my dedication to excellence and a testament to the positive impact I had made.

EAG End of the Year Party

Reflecting on my journey at Fundall, I’m filled with immense gratitude. My first year in review is just a glimpse into the amazing journey I’ve had at Fundall. This experience has not only been a testament to my personal growth but also a valuable lesson in the transformative power of data-driven insights for organizational optimization. Looking forward, I am excited to continue contributing to Fundall’s success through the lens of data. As I share my story, I encourage others to embrace the symphony of data and unlock the hidden potential within their enterprises.
